As the city of Lucerne grows, so does the demand for centrally located, modern office and residential space. The Roesslimatt site currently features railroad freight sheds, sidings and office as well as residential buildings in need of renovation. It lies 400 meters from the central train station, in the very heart of Lucerne. The site is to be developed into a vital and dense urban settlement.

In April 2013, the SBB invited six architectural offices to participate in a site development competition, in order to obtain a range of ideas for sound urban planning concepts. We supported the entire process – from preparing all pertinent competition documentation to organizing the jury and their workshops and to writing the final report. The competition included two critique sessions, in which the architects were able to enter into an interactive dialogue with the jury to refine their concepts and ideas.

The jury was made up of client representatives and members of the city council of Lucerne, as well as architects and landscape architects. Cost planning, sustainability, transport, social work and acoustics specialists delivered valuable inputs to guarantee feasible projects.
